Celebrating the legacy of my grandfather, John “Pickey” Brunious, Sr. — a musician who truly lived and breathed music — on his 106th birthday.

Beyond his brilliant playing, he was a masterful composer, arranger, and a definitive leader of the polyphonic ensemble style that shapes traditional New Orleans jazz. Here are two of his solos that I’ve always loved. I hope you enjoy them as much as I do!
